Buyers Remorse Already?

We're just starting our v8 implementation. We are a new customer switching
from a home grown solution with maybe 15% of the features in Vantage.
Luckily neither of these two issues will effect us right now. We don't
intend on customizing much for our initial go-live and we don't have jobs
anywhere near that large. Additionally, we have a long way to go to be
ready for a full go-live, so the software issues we've seen so far should
easily be worked out by then.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Electroimpact has been live on V6.0 almost
two years. We're skipping V6.1 because we don't want to pay Epicor for a
couple of custom mods we can do ourselves in V8.

We'll keep everyone posted on V8's Large Job Performance. If anyone else has
show-stopper problems with V8, please let us know. We want to convert to V8
ASAP to get its UI and Customization features.

We have just had the installation done on Vantage 8.0 (Completely
new to the system) and I am just going through exploring. I am
starting to have doubts already about our choosing this piece of
software.

Already I have issues where it freezes on logon if you do not put
the correct password in.
Also, if you right click on the blank area of the browser the
context menu still pops up giving you the option `Add to
favorites'.. of course nothing is selected, but do it and you
get
an unhandled exception (very easily fixed)Â…

Seeing, way too early on, similar problems which caused us to leave
MOVEX in the first placeÂ…

Please tell me I have not made a mistake in going right with 8.0 and
not an earlier versionÂ… or someone reassure I've even made
the right
choice in going with Vantage?

Thanks,

Matt
Matt,
If it helps any...I would call V8 Late beta stage. I was involved with the
Beta testing through October of last year. By the time you are comfortable
with the processes in Vantage you should have a real strong product. Keep
in mind that most of us on this list are on 6.x or earlier due to stability.
If I was implementing now I would go with 8 even though I would not upgrade
to 8 yet. Basically the upgrade to V8 would be like a new install anyway,
so you might as well live through the "fit and finish" issues by reporting
them to support as you find them. You will be light-years ahead of those of
us who are going to have to make the jump later.
Based on past response, I would expect the issues like you are seeing to be
tied down shortly.
Good luck, and please do give us any of the issues that you are having, not
only to allow us to offer what support we can, but also to allow the rest of
us to gauge when the pain of upgrade will not be added upon by the quirks
and bugs of the "new" system.
Thanks,
Aaron Hoyt

I can't speak for Vantage fitting your company but Vantage 6.1 is very
stable. Not that there have not been minor issues. 8.0 is a huge leap forward for
Epicor and we plan on waiting at least a year before we even look at it.
Epicor is doing a much better job with the new releases but I dont think I would
want to be on the bleeding edge of this one.

Jeremy

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
It looks like you are experiencing the anxiety/pain of being on the
bleeding edge of technology/Vantage. We definitely want to move up to
Vantage 8.0 but are waiting until the software gets shaken out. You've
avoided two learning curves by going directly to V8 versus starting at
6.1 then moving up to 8.0. The trade-off of course is instability and
pot-holes. If possible, plug additional time into your implementation
schedule for Vantage testing (and problem resolution). I can't comment
on Vantage being right for your company as I do not know your business.

Sincerely,
Peter Dunbar
Halm Industries Co., Inc.
Electroimpact has been V8 beta since the beginning. We would love to go to
V8 but can't until Epicor resolves two issues:

Large job performance. Our largest job (2000 Asm's, 5000 Mtl's, 5000 Opr's)
takes 80 seconds to load in V8, 4 seconds in V6. Mark Pladson has stated
this will be fixed shortly. But it better be under 8 seconds.

Customization. We want to heavily customize PO Entry which can't be done in
V6. There are several customization bug incidents that we opened months ago
that don't even have an SCR yet. I agree that business functions take
precedence. But this is a show-stopper for us.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Fortunately or unfortunately we are stuck with the decision of going
with V8..

I'll just keep track of every little thing and push for them to be
fixed... Not saying we were technically lied to, but it seems as
though our sales staff may have forgotten to tell us a few things...
(add your own shock and awe here)
I would keep a very detailed log of call numbers, who you spoke to and
resolutions. I have found that Denial is more then a river in Africa when dealing
with Epicor and development issues. Once Tech Support (Who I am very happy
with most of the time) passes the issue off to Development for resolution, it is
unlikely that you will ever hear anything back. We call it the "Black Whole".
It seems that once an issue is sent to Development, the case is closed for
the help desk so there is no one to monitor the issue except you.

Jeremy

If you bought the product and received V8 I'd recommend putting it on the
shelf and installing 6.1 instead.

During the initial installation of the product you do NOT need to be beta
testing for ANY software company.

Go live on 6.1 ... upgrade to v8 next x-mas or next spring when you and it
have mellowed out a bit ...
