TT5's

Dick,
We have been using TT5s for the last 2 1/2 years, or perhaps I should say
"have been trying" to use TT5s.
You ask about error trapping at the input device, but I'm not sure what you
mean. Depending on when you gave up using them you may not have seen the
programs for Vantage 4.0; these are greatly improved over 3.0 as the program
does perform data validation at the clock. It checks for valid employee
IDs, job number (plus assembly and sequence), as well as indirect codes.

Unfortunately, it does have a quirk related to the Progress database that
nobody has been able to resolve. The program crashes pretty regularly after
about 60 hours with an error code that Progress says is so low-level that we
shouldn't be able to get it.

I know that there are one or two companies out there that use the program
with no problems. I also know that there is at least one other company out
there that has the exact same problem, although Vantage tech support tells
me that I'm "the only one reporting this problem." Of course, I never
believe them when they tell me that because I can go check with others on
the eGroups list to get the real story.

Bottom line: I would probably wait until they find out what's causing the
program to crash before going back to TT5s. I have a big problem with
employees trusting the program. Managers, supervisors, and employees all
blame the job clocks for things that have nothing to do with the program,
but everybody believes that its true because the clocks are so unreliable.

Good luck!

Subject: [Vantage] TT5's

Two years ago, we attempted to implement TT5's in our manufacturing
environment. Because of a variety of
reasons, we aborted this attempt and instead went to mouse and keyboard.
I like the concept of the TT5's,
and am wondering if anyone is currently using them, and if so, have the
problems associated with them been
resolved? Particularly, has error trapping (at the input device) been
remedied , and how difficult was it for users
to adjust to their use? I thank you for your attention.
