SODIMM vs DDR3 RAM? Huh?

Totally off topic, but thought I would come to a place filled with IT gurus to get your thoughts. I am wondering what the difference is between the two and which is better or if it doesn’t matter?

Back story: Groupon has scratch and dent macbook pros for $459 and the choice is either SoDimm or DDR3 and I have no idea what that even means. Did some research, but it’s confusing to me.

Love to get your thoughts. Thank you in advance.

@chelgemoe I am not sure why they would bother to distinguish the two. SOdimm are simply Small Outline DIMM. Think 2.5" Hard Drive vs 3.5" Hard Drive. Effectively the same thing. Just smaller and slightly pricier. While it is true that SOdimm are generally lower voltage (basically slower) but effectively they are the same. Without seeing the specifics, I suspect that you are looking at a horse a piece on this.

Thanks so much for providing your insight. Really appreciate it. For what I would be doing, doesn’t sound like it’s going to have much affect on me. Thanks again sir!!
