Reports

I for one was unaware you could buy source for just the reports. That is a
good thing. However, buyers beware, programming in provision is much more
involved than Report Builder or Crystal. Many of the reports furnished
through Vantage use temporary tables based on various joins. In some
instances the data you want to add may require added tables and logic. This
is not a simple task. If you are not a "Professional Programmer" or take
some extensive training (A single week long class won't cut it) I would pay
the man or find a work around in crystal, report builder or try the EBI
module.

My two cents...

Todd is on the right track, but let me clarify. If you want source code for
Vantage, you must purchase it for the entire system. However, you may
purchase the Source Code for Reports only. They are sold by module. For
instance, you can purchase the source code for all the reports within the
Job Management module for a fixed price. This price is the same whether you
want to modify one report or all the reports within a given module. Please
contact myself or your specific Customer Account Manager off list for
details and pricing.

If they are crystal reports, yes, you can use crystal. If they are progress
reports, no, from my understanding.

Hi all,

is there a way to load the reports, which come standard with Vantage,
into the reportbuilder or Crystal ?... i want to see the fields and
tables they use.

Thanks
Hendrik

Three types of reports exist with Vantage

1) Crystal reports: Located in the "userform" directory in Vantage.
2) Report Builder: "Reports" library in the main directory of Vantage.
Epicore does not have any standard report in report builder.
3) Progress Reports: You can not access them unless you have the Vantage
source code.

Well,

I do not know if they are Crystal or Progress, I do not know where they are
located, inside a library ? folder ? file ?

for better understanding I mean the reports in, for example,
Job Management
Master File Maintenance
General Operations
Reports---->

Hendrik

The reports you are referring to are the Vantage Progress reports and there
is no way to access the code modify them, or view them in another program
(unless you have provision, then you can access them and modify them).

Your report builder reports may be in the Vantage -> UD folder rather than a
reports folder.
Sorry but this is not entirely correct. The reports are indeed written in
Progress 4gl code using ProVision. However unless you licensed the source
code you CAN NOT view or modify the source code behind them. You can hire
our favorite group Custom Programming or purchase source code and
write/modify your own.

Hendrik:

Look in System Utilities, Report Style Maintenance. This gives a list of
all "canned" reports (they came from Vantage). It indicates whether the
default report is a Progress report (that you can't reach), or a Crystal
Report-which you can modify. If you edit this list, it will show you where
in the Vantage directory your reports are stored. My experience is that the
Crystal Reports are usually in Vantage\USERFORM\ and then the name. A word
of caution: If you alter any canned Crystal Reports, save them under a new
name, or they could be wiped out when you upgrade to another version of
Vantage.

Report Builder Reports are in a library: it is usually
Vantage\UD\Vantage.PRL

Hope this helps.

Lydia

Wow, I can't believe that purchasing the progress provision tools does not
give you access to modify those reports. I really thought that was the
case, I'm bewildered as to why Epicor would only allow you to modify or view
progress reports with source code, but I'm sure that is indeed the case.
Common sense led me in the wrong direction this time:)
Yes, it probably is a MOOT point at this time isn't it?

You want to talk about source code purchasing.
We purchased the code for the Gateway module so
that we could develop and enhance data collection
as we saw fit. Yes we received the code, however,
this does not include the licenses for any add-on
OCX's that Epicor is using. When you open the code
in provision, if you do not have the license
file you will receive an error message and then
Provision will remove the control from the module.
So now if you save and recompile it with out the OCX,
have fun!

Sarah,

You're on target.

You can purchase :
1. Vantage
2. Vantage Source Code
3. ProVision.

If you purchase Vantage Source Code AND ProVision you can modify the
"Standard" programs that come with Vantage. If you purchase ProVision but
do NOT purchase Vantage Source Code you can write your own programs outside
of Vantage but cannot change any of the existing programs.

I don't know how EPICOR handles source code sales these days but it use to
be that you could purchase the source code on a module by module basis. So
common sense should dictate that you be able to purchase the source code for
JUST the reports for a very reasonable amount of money.

It's probably a mute point to even say this but would ANY of the EPICOR
people on this list care to chime in here ?
