Overtime GL entries

This system works great for us. For several reasons:

Well, yes the total cost of that time is not reflected in the overtime
account. But then, as I recall, that overtime doesn't go to the job either.
So, I would rather the straight time be reflected on the job - not the
overtime. Here's why-expediting job A early in the week causes overtime on
job B on Saturday. It was the expediting of job A that caused the overtime
on Job B. However, overtime occurs after 40 hours. So, it isn't really
accurate to be overloading Job B with costs that were prompted by expediting
Job A. It is really the number of hours it takes to make a particular part
that will be useful in the future (say 1-5 years later) when we look at how
we are going to cost that job.

Other examples of why Vantage's system is good for us: with worker's comp
purposes, the straight time counts as wages, but the premium is excluded
from the dollars on which the insurance premium is calculated. I need a
similar calculation for our profit sharing/401k program.

It is a different perspective from our pre-Vantage way of costing, but one I
can live with.

However, I would like to be able to trace overtime $ with Vantage on parts
that are actually generating overtime for times when we are able to bill
expediting charges. Some parts do for the course of the week, generating
justifiable overtime that those costs would belong on the job. Yes, I want
to have my cake and eat it too!

I'm curious on a "feature" of Vantage. If my overtime rate is
time-and-a-half, it appears that overtime hits the direct labor GL account
for the standard rate and only hits the Overtime Premium GL account for the
and-a-half. The result, of course, is a GL that doesn't truly reflect the
actual cost of overtime in the overtime account.

I've talked to tech support and was told this is the way Vantage is designed
to work. Any guidance?
