OT: Rhinoteck Toners

We purchase ours from the same company that services our copiers and
printers. They are recycled and carry the brand name of Marathon.
I think they are recycled by a company by the name of Intec & Company. We
have never had any trouble with any of them but I have never run a page
count either.

Once again a salesman is trying to push off brand toners on the staff.
Promising cheap prices, etc, etc. At a previous place of employment 6+
years ago I had one blow up in a printer and cause a real mess. Last time
this company ordered them we went through them twice as fast as an HP toner.
Or the more likely scenario, we would install them and they would be "out of
toner" and we would have to pitch them. We ended up tossing them all.

This salesman is telling our staff that it is illegal for HP to void our
warranty if we use an off brand toner. Of course they send along their
warranty of promise of repair if we can prove it was their toner that caused
a problem in a printer. (Don't even get me started on that.)

Has anyone had any luck with this company or any words of wisdom that I can
bring back to the discussion? Of course there is a significant "immediate"
cost savings by ordering the off brand toner so on paper it looks like a
good idea....

I have used off brand toners before and have had no success with them. They definitely did not compare to the HP Brand. In addition I also had a independent technician work on one of our printers and he suggested not to use any toner other than HP.

I strongly recommend that you stick with the recommended toner. Our old
materials manager tried a bargain brand against my instructions and it cost
me $900 in repairs. When the "cheap" toner salesmen call give them the
boot. They are just scammers.

I've used Rhinotec ink cartridges and didn't have any trouble with them. I
got them through PC Connection (not your fly-by night salesman type). I
also wouldn't use anything but HP for the toner cartridges, but in defense
of Rhinotec - the ink cartridges were fine.

We use HP laser reloads from a reputable business supply place. They have worked fine. Actually I am mandated by our CEO/Owner to buy there because it is owned by a college buddy of his and they have some sort of business relationship. Only in a privately held company. ;) At least they actually are cheaper than most other sources and the cartridges are good. But it gives me the perfect excuse to blow off the fly-by-night outfits and the hard sell sales people. For our HP LJ 8000 though we only use genuine HP due to the cost of that printer. The HP 2100/2300 types I don' worry as much about.

Did have one issue with a pitch from National Imaging Systems under the guise of it being a marketing promotion to get us to buy from our current supplier but specify their cartridges. They sent one supposedly for free for us to evaluate after many assurances there was no cost at all. Then got a bill for $160. Funny thing was that even after much wrangling with their A/R people another salesperson called. So I wrote down the whole pitch word for word and then at the end asked about the other cartridge. He got a bit flustered but claimed I could just rip up the invoice that it was a formality, ya dah yadee dah..etc... So with the new notes I am armed for turning it over to the state attorney general's office. Trying to figure out if that would be CA, MN or perhaps FTC. Maybe all of them and the BBB too.

How about the ones that try to masquerade as your "legitimate" vendor to try
and get you to buy "sooner". (our vendor has estimated our usage and sends
them in without asking as part of our contract). They proceed to try and
social engineer your make and model of copier so they can "send the right
one."

Or the ones that don't identify themselves and act like long lost buddies.

As soon as they say "TONER" they all get about 3 seconds before I hang up.

We, too, have a local company that supplies our recycled toners they pick up
the empties and leave off the new ones-then we issue a PO.

BEST PART - I tell anyone calling that we have a KANBAN system with a local
distributor, they don't know what that is and I hang up. Takes 5 seconds,
but they never call back.
