Data Collection Station Computer/Monitor Enclosures

(system) #1
Angelo,

We've done exactly what you want. With standard touch screen PC's and
cabinets.

We used javelin PC's and they work great (but they are not cheap). The PC's
are sealed units so there is no fan to blow shop dirt into them and they
have a mounting bracket that fits them perfectly into a standard steel
cabinet.

The PC's do not need to be put into cabinets to protect them from the
environment, the cabinets are only needed to protect the PC's cables and
power switch from the shop employees!!

I don't have the details in front of me but I can get you all the info and
some pictures of the setup.

You can call me at (604) 946-4900 Vancouver BC, Canada.

Regards

Jerry L. Solobay

Angelo,
I've attached an AutoCAD drawing of the enclosure we use in the shop. It
ain't pretty, but it works pretty well. I'm not a draftsman, so the drawing
isn't the best. However, total cost of the enclosures was well under $100,
including $20 for the fan and $10 for the keyboard tray.
Of course, your cost might be higher... We have scrap acrylic for
the face laying around. This also serves to secure the computers, because
they're sealed inside the box behind the acrylic. Give me a call if you have
questions.

Our setup for vantage will include three data collection stations in our
production or shop area, which will use a touchscreen at each of the three
stations. We have not found a suitable vendor to buy such a unique item.
Does anyone have a suggestion as far as a vendor that could be of assistance
(A link to a web site would be very helpful). Obviously we could fabricated
the enclosures in house, but if we went down that route I would need a
vendor cut sheet and/or picture to help the design process.

Thank You
