BAQ Report Designer

FYI

I ended up getting the parameters to work in Crystal.

We have over 5,000 customers and I was not getting the complete list.

It seems this is a known problem with Dynamic Parameters with getting records over 500

I know get the complete list of customers to select

I need to update the following:

1.)    Â Create a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV.

2.)    Â Add a string value "MaxRowsetRecords" and set the value to the maximum number of values that you desire for your report.

3.)    Â Create the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV and that key will override the settings of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV key.)

4.)    Add a string value "MaxRowsetRecords" and set the value to the maximum number of values that you desire for your report.

I finally did get the report to run with all companies but, in the drop down list about 100.  How do I get it to list more?

I did get the prompt to come up for customers.   In my BAQ it will let me filter on the calculated field, so I started with all the Customer Id’s that start with A.

It sounds like you did not connect the Crystal Parameter field to the crystal record filter.

I tried the parameter, it works when I am in Crystal Reports developer.

When I run it from the Epicor menu, I am not prompted by the parameter in print preview.

Is there something I am missing?

I used to be able to prompt when I was using SQL and the datasource was different from the ADO.net we are using with Progress.

The only way I was able to do this was to filer on the crystal side, if you haven’t done it there it’s a parameter field linked to record filter which then prompts you when you print or preview the report.

I get java errors printing directly but print preview then printing works.

I created a BAQ so that we can have a Sales Return Rate.

I used the parttran for transtype - MFG-CUS, STK-CUS and RMA-INS (RMA receipts).

The MFG and STK to CUS had the customer number on the record.

The RMA-INS did not.

I created a calculated field based on TransType and called it CustomerID.

When I created a report through BAQ report designer, it does not let me use the calculated field as filter.

Is there a way around this?  Is there a way I can use my calculated field as a filter.

We are on Epicor 9.05.605 and have a progress DB

When we try and open the job scheduling board it gives an error that the

Does anyone know how to tell who has this tied up?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ya, it's kind of dumb.

After you generate sample data, you have to reestablish the data source
in Crystal.

You would think this would happen automatically but is doesn't.

Try this out:

The Crystal form now needs to be modified.

...

3. Choose the Database menu -> Set Datasource Location.

4. In bottom half of the screen, click on + sign next to Create New
Connection.

5. Click + sign next to ADO.NET.

5. Connection to XML file screen, choose the button ... to the right.

6. Browse to your Epicor\Mfgsysdata\Reports\Username(who printed the PO
in above steps) 7. Find the latest PurchaseOrder123456.XML file
generated by the above steps.

8. This XML file contains the fields added in Report Data Definitions.

9. Select this particular XML file to bring it into the File Path:
field.

10. Make sure both ReportDataSet options are highlighted and choose the
Update button on the right. Do the same thing with each ReportDataSet
in the top window.

11. Click again on Database menu, choose Verify Database. Database is up
to date message.

11. Click Close and Save.

12. Those fields should now be available in the Field Explorer to add to
the Crystal form.

Do you have to have SDK to use the BAQ Report Designer? What actually
is the BAQ Report Designer useful for? I am trying to just add a
crystal report to a menu item under one of the report folders in
Vantage 803. I have created the report using ODBC connection but i
can't get it to run from the menu when i add it to Vantage. Is this a
situation where i need BAQ Report Designer? I am also trying to get a
report for order information where they would have to enter in the
order number thye want to the report to be generated from. Can
crystal do this? or would i need BAQ Report Designer.

You can attach it to the menu as a custom report. Use a UNC patch
though to designate its locations

Also you can use an order number prompt in an ODBC crystal report by
filtering on a crystal parameter

It also provides you with a "standard" methodolgy for your users to select
criteria, such as how to sort report data (i.e. customer/date,
date/customer, or whatever columns you decide to include in the report...).
And, although I have not tried this, I would think that it might be possible
to then attach this report to a schedule similarly to how you would do this
for a standard included report.

Sorry a UNC path (mistype)

I.e. \\server\reports\crystalreport.rpt

I followed all your steps. I was able to see the additional tables
after I selected them in the database expert. However, now I can not
see the sample data in the crystal reports. I think it is due to the
auto linking.

I have four tables in the crystal report which were automatically
generated from the BAQ: BAQ Report Parameter, BAQ Report Result,
Company and RPTLabels. If I turn auto linking off I still get the
same result. Do you know how they should be linked?

I have verified that there is sample data in the xml file. Thanks for
the help!

I'm able to connect to my ODBC SQL server using the connection string
in Crystal: Driver={SQL
Server};Server=ERPDB;Database=mfgsys80;Trusted_Connection=yes; I
wrote my report and i attached it to a menu item in Vantage. I have
not set up the ODBC username and pwd in the System Agent so when i
open the report in Vantage it prompts for that information. My domain
name has administrator rights on the SQL server so when i run the
report on my computer i have no problems, and it runs fine. If i try
to open it on anyone else's computer, it keeps asking for username and
password and i cna't run the report. what username and pwd is it
asking for? It's like I can't get access to the sql db. Do i have to
set up something special on my db for odbc logins?

Thanks.

You can enter the username and password in the local PC's registry settings. That way the user does not get prompted. You enter the username and password that is setup in your database for sql access, normally sysprogress.

to enter in registry, follow these steps.
Problem Resolution:
1.) Go to Start -> Run -> type in regedit
2.) This will bring up your Registry Editor.
3.) Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI.
4.) Find your specific ODBC connection that is setup in your ODBC datasources and double-click on it.
5.) Go up to the Edit -> New -> String Value in the menu.
6.) Give your New String Value the name of Password.
7.) Then double-click and give it a value of sysprogress. (Or whatever your password is setup to be.)
8.) Exit the Registry.
9.) Test your report and you should not get prompted.

It is also possible to put the username and password in the
connection string

DRIVER=DataDirect 4.20 32-Bit Progress SQL92
v10.0B;DB=mfgsys;PORT=8350;HOST=WYATT;UID=sysprogress;PWD=sysprogress

I also am having a difficult time getting my crystal reports to run
without being prompted for the usermane and password. I use a VB
Script to put the entries into the registry and yet most users will
still recieve the ODBC username and password promt.
Here is the script:
' This Script installs the Registry keys for the Vantage "Live"
Database.

Set WshShell=CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80\", "Top level
key"

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80
\Driver","C:\WINDOWS\System32\SQLSRV32.dll","REG_SZ"

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80
\Server","EPICOR01","REG_SZ"

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80\User
ID","ODBCuser","REG_SZ"

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80
\Password","itwodbc","REG_SZ"

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80
\Description","Vantage Sys Database","REG_SZ"

WScript.Quit

If I add the following line:
WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MfgSys80
\Trusted_Connection","Yes","REG_SZ"

It allows a savy user with MS Access to get to a database on the
Cognos server and update data at will. This could be a real danger
to the integrity of my SQL database.

I am Stumped.

Well, yes and no.

A "Trusted Connection" means that SQL Server uses the users Windows Login for
authentication. A good DB Admin will create local security groups for the
different types of access (lower-case) to the data and then add those users
who need that capability to the group. (Actually, I would add a Global Group
from Active Directory to the local group but I digress...)

I find this method of security far superior to a username and password.

I am trying to create a custom report that shows Bill of Materials. In
BOMs we use reference designator (for the parts where they will be
placed). I customized Engineering Workbench/MoM/Materials tab and it
came out pretty good. Then I created a BAQ that will allow me to join
Data Fields. And it worked out good too. I created the report but I
have some problems:

I have one option field "Revision Effective Date" and two sort fields
which are "Part Number" and "Revision"

1- I want to be able to pull up latest Revision for that spesific BOM
that assigned to that ECO Group without selecting it manually.
2- When I disable "Effective Date" option from the option field on the
report, report results show multiple parts even though I select that
particular part.
3- When I select different Revision or Part, again report shows
multiple parts. It does not matter whether I select Part and Revision
at the same time. The only thing it gives me the exact results is to
enable Effective Date option.
4- Can I pull up the exact records that I wanted without going through
"Effective Date"?

What I want to do is just by selecting Part number I want to be able
to print out latest Revision of that BOM. And I want to have that
ability to pull up spesific Revision if needed. I am kind of stuck at
this point and need to get exact results.

Thank you

How can I add an option to a report to get latest updated information
results for a part? Is this a type of a syntax issue or should I
arrange that report on Crystal Reports? If so, how?

Thank you.

(system) #19
More specific information is needed, especially when you say "latest updated information results". Are you wanting to get only data that was changed on the part record?

Sorry about that. I created a Bill of Materials report. I have an
option field-an issue for me also-called "Effective Date" which is the
effective date of that particular Revision. It is kind of hard for us
to inform our workers about the changes that have been made. What I
want to achieve is regardless of the Effective Date, report shows the
latest Revision of that particular Bill of Material.

Another issue is I tried to disable that option field from BAQ Report
Designer but report still shows different BOMs also and I did not
manage to solve it. The only way for me to get the "exact" output is
to select Effective date of that particular BOM, Part, and Revision.
If one of them are missing the output shows multiple BOMs.

Thank you
